W01T11 – The second desire

What does being pursued look like in your life?

The second desire is: To Have an Essential Role

I think this is true of the way the Trinity views their relationship with us. Jesus said in John 15:5  that, “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” This is spoken in the context of an illustration Jesus used of a vine and the branches, and He was saying that a branch cannot be separate from the vine, and bear fruit, or live for that matter. It is essential for life and growth to stay connected to the vine.

He then turns the illustration to our relationship with Him, and applies the same thing to us. He is the vine and we are the branches, and the Father is the vine dresser. He has an essential role in our lives that can’t be filled with money, social status, work accomplishments, relationships, or achievements.

The difference is that we can choose whether we will stay connected to God as our source, or move off on our own to find what we need somewhere else.

The apostle Paul writes in Acts that, “…In Him (Jesus), we live and move and have our being…” He is our very life source and we cannot live outside of Him. He is essential to us.
