Your Enemy and His Tactics
Let’s continue your understanding about Spiritual Warfare by learning more about satan. Watch this next video now:
Before starting the Guide Exercise, use the following activity to test your understanding of Agreements.
Knowing how to identify agreements in your regular vocabulary is a critical step to successfully breaking them in Jesus’ name. Use this sorting activity to test your understanding of agreements by determining whether the sentence is framed as an agreement or in a way that is not giving satan that open door.

Restoration Guide Exercise 1, Page 3
Let’s take a moment to ask Jesus to reveal to you what agreements you have made. Take your Restoration Guide and turn to page 3. You can see some examples of what agreements are, and you have some lines to write them down. Take about 7-10 minutes to do this exercise.
The biblical world view is that we are under regular spiritual assault. Putting this in military terms, it’s like Anti-Aircraft-Artillery or Triple “A”: Accusation, Assault, and Agreement.
Level 1: Accusation
- Satan’s #1 scheme is accusation, (“You’re a failure.” etc.) He loves to tear us down to keep us wallowing in guilt and regret. He gives us subtle and sometimes not so subtle reminders of our past mistakes and failures.
- He knows your story, wounds, and messages from them and will try and rub our faces in them.
- If he can’t get you to back down using this tactic, he ramps up his strategy against you.
Level 2: Assault
- How does the enemy use shame against us? Shame is the “swampland of the soul”. It’s different than guilt.
- Guilt says, “I made a mistake”, whereas shame says, “I am a mistake.” He loves to whisper that to us. Shame is like a black tar that paints our soul and heart and keeps us weighed down, afraid, and hiding out of fear of exposure.
- How does satan use fear against us?
- Randall Wallace has some profound observations in his book ‘Living the Braveheart Life’, saying “Fear clouds our vision and judgement. It shouts lies into our consciousness.”
- What is the lie that fear shouts to us? It’s that: “I am not…” Fear wants you to deny that you have a purpose and you were created to fulfill that purpose.
Level 3: Agreements
An agreement is made when you align yourself with the lies satan says about you instead of the truth of what God says, and in doing so, you give him access to harass you.
An agreement sounds like:
- “I can never get it right”, “I’m not good at relationships”, “I’ll always be rejected”
- Agreements are subtle lies that we believe about ourselves or the way the world works and our belief empowers the lies to become our reality.
Satan is always looking for us to make agreements to get access to us. We must always find our identity and comfort in Jesus alone, otherwise we are ripe for making agreements. These agreements can feel true because they get delivered with pain from our wounds.
